Budapest in the global spotlight of SMA research this weekđź’«

Budapest is proud to host the 5th International SMA Congress from March 11–14, 2026, welcoming nearly 1,000 leading scientists, physicians, and members of the SMA community from around the world.
This year’s congress is particularly special as the main organizer, SMA Europe, celebrates its 20th anniversary. To mark the occasion and raise awareness for those living with SMA, several of Budapest’s iconic landmarks — Millenáris Széllkapu Park, Puskás Arena Budapest, and MVM Dome — will be illuminated in symbolic green tonight.
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a rare genetic neuromuscular disease that significantly affects mobility. Events like this congress highlight the importance of scientific progress, collaboration, and international knowledge exchange in improving the lives of those affected.
We are honored that Budapest can provide a platform for this important global dialogue.
